The BM 13-16 multiple-launch rocket system, also known in the Red Army as the Katyusha, was widely used in almost all sectors of the Soviet-German front. They were used, as a rule, in the support of the main assaults.
Rocket projectiles M-13 had a range of more than 8 kilometers and were loaded with 5 kg of explosives each. Guards rocket launchers (the so-called multiple launch rocket systems during the war years) with their powerful destructive effect also produced a strong psychological effect on the enemy. A volley of one regiment of such installations ensured destruction over an area of more than one square kilometer.
