Clearly one of the best ever kits from Dragon was a 1/35 scale rendition of a Tiger I tank belonging to the legendary panzer ace Hauptsturmführer Michael Wittmann (Item No.6730). The tank kit met a phenomenal response from the market, and the box even included a full set of tankers representing Wittmann and his four crewmen. However, that production run swiftly sold out thanks to its immense popularity.
While Dragon is offering a second production run of Wittmann’s Tiger I, the next kit doesn’t feature the tank crewmen. However, to meet requests from frantic modelers who missed out on the kit combo the first time around, Dragon is going to offer Wittmann and his crew as a standalone 1/35 scale figure set.
Wittmann was one of Germany’s highest-scoring tank aces of WWII, with the credited destruction of 138 tanks and 132 anti-tank guns. He cut his teeth on the Eastern Front with a StuG.III, and later he took command of a Tiger I in time for combat during Operation Citadel at Kursk in July 1943. The figure set offers an authentic-looking rendition of Wittmann and his Tiger I crew. Detail on these 1/35 scale figures is excellent, with their panzer uniforms well rendered as they pose for a group photo. However, model-makers will have to be quick to snap up this figure set if the popularity of the original tank/crew set is anything to go by!
