The Bedford QL line of military trucks was established in the late 1930s, at the request of the British Army, in order to have a more modern and flexible transport vehicle. The tests were concluded in 1940 and in the first months of 1941 the Bedford QLs were distributed to operational departments. For the entire duration of the war it was used on the various fronts and proved to be a valid support for satisfying logistics and transport needs thanks to its four-wheel drive and relatively low weight which enhanced its load capacity. Thanks to its flexibility and robustness it was also used for towing and transporting artillery pieces such as the 6 Pdr anti-tank gun or the 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun. Equipped with a 72 horsepower 6-cylinder petrol engine, it was also characterized by ease of maintenance and repair, an important element on the battlefield.
