From 16th to 18th June the French troops and the Allied troops clashed on battlefields of Belgium. The battles of Ligny and Quatre Bras were only the previews of one of the most famous and well-known battles of military history. A date and a place: 18th June 1815, Waterloo.
Wellington considered the farm of La Haye Sainte a strategic point of the British army’s defensive line. In the afternoon, Napoleon ordered Marshal Ney to launch the assault on the farm to obtain a significant outpost. The farm was strenuously defended by Allied troops, which had fortified the buildings since the morning. The French Imperial Guard started the assault, but it was too late. Prussian troops led by Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher joined the battle to support British Army. The French attack was repulsed. Napoleon was defeated and returned to France.
