The Sd. Kfz. 234/2, commonly known as the "Puma," was a German armored car used during World War II. This vehicle was part of the Sd. Kfz. 234 series, which featured four different designs, with the 234/2 being the most recognized. Equipped with a 5 cm KwK 39 L/60 cannon in a fully rotating turret, the Puma was capable of engaging both soft targets and light armored vehicles effectively.
Designed for reconnaissance and rapid movement, the Puma was noted for its exceptional speed and maneuverability, attributed to its powerful Tatra 103 diesel engine and 8-wheel drive system. The vehicle's robust wheel configuration allowed for high mobility in a variety of terrain types, which was crucial for its scouting roles.
The Sd. Kfz. 234/2 Puma was also heavily armored for an armored car, providing substantial protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, making it a formidable opponent in a variety of combat scenarios. Its combination of firepower, mobility, and armor made it one of the most effective and versatile armored cars deployed by Germany during the war.
