The Sturmgeschütz III was Germany's most produced armored combat vehicle in World War II. It was built on the chassis of the Panzer III tank. Germany originally intended to use it as a mobile armored light artillery for infantry support. After continuous improvement and intensive research, it was finally transformed into a tank destroyer in 1942. By the end of the war, Germany had produced a total of 10,500 Type III assault guns.
